Found this today thrifting. It is all brass with griffins on the base. I have no idea what it is. Looks very old. Maybe a religious object??? Any ideas?

Welcome, Daniel! Looks like something to do with smoking. The part with the 2 flat upright pieces is a matchbox holder.

Explains why only the bowl shaped receptacle is removable, so ashes can be dumped. Supported by fire breathing dragons, what could be more appropriate?

One spot for ciggies, one for cigars, and a slot for a match box with an ash tray. Yep. I wouldn't know what to do with it either except stuff it with jewelry findings.

    Welcome to the forum, Daniel.
What the others said (including the jewellery findings), and late 19th-early 20th century.

Talking of religious smokers, does anyone remember those figurines of monks with cigars or cigarettes which could smoke? I think they were German.

Maybe the Germans only sold them to us.
My dad also used to have a ceramic ashtray with a smoking Churchill. I think you put your cigarette in a hole at the back of the figurine, and the smoke came out through a tiny hole in the ceramic cigar.

I think the bowl is not an ashtray but for mixing different pipe-tobbacoes

I believe some months ago there was a thread about 3 "goblets" and what appeared to be a cutting blade fixture, it was also a tobacco blending piece.

My family were smokers and I have several very decorative whatsits like this with the same configuration. There may have been a small glass bowl to sit in the center well.
