    Have been told it's possible ormolu 1930s?

    That's an interesting base .
    I've not seen one like it before ...
    Can you open it so the wood comes off...and see if there's any markings inside ?

    Hello Stephan. A lot of Shakespeare stuff was made in 1964 to celebrate 400 years since his birth, although obviously that does not rule out an earlier origin for your statuette. You will have to ask whoever told you it is ormolu how they were using that term. It originally applied to a very specific (& poisonous) way of gilding but seems to have come to be used for any gilt bronze. As the Bard said:

    All that glitters is not gold.
