looks like a gentlemans clothing brush......but with all that patina.....maybe just a hair brush....from someone who had oily hair..!!!

    Hi,
I had a very old shoe brush that looked like that but it had a smell of shoe wax. It looks like a guys clothing brush.

hi bronwen not sure to be honest

all i know is that i plucked and burned and it smelt like the day i set my beard alight with a cigerette lighter !!

Since bristle is also hair, think it would smell just as bad, but would be stiffer & is what was used for hair brushes until nylon bristles came along. High end hair brushes still are natural bristle & I imagine clothes brushes were too. Agree with others that overall size & shortness of bristles look more suitable for clothes than hair. Something your valet could use to get you ready to leave the house.

Condition also comes into it, of course. Yours must have belonged to someone very well groomed. Or to the attendant in the gents room of some swanky restaurant.
