I got this watercolor before Christmas but only just got around to taking photos (with which I am not happy). It’s very well painted. The watercolor measures about 6” x 14 1/8” and is wallpapered to a stiff card. It is signed lower right: V. Loria. I think this is Vincenzo Loria (1849 –1939), a Neopolitan artist. (He gets a squib in English Wikipedia, but seems well respected in Italian Wiki.) I believe this is the Second Temple of Hera (460-450 B.C.) at Paestum on the west coast of Campagnia, Italy. <p>

A few things to show here. No great shakes but worth picking up.

Bought this 6" x 6" tile by Beth Starbuck. It most likely was done while she was a ceramics dept. resident here at the university in the late 70s. She now has her own tile Co. in PA. Bought for $6.00 at the mall where I have my booth.

Numbered edition of Mathew Modine's Full Metal Jacket Diary. Another pick from the neighbor's curb for free.

Couple Russel Wright Casual bowls for Iroquois. Paid a $1.00 for the pair at the thrift store.
    stuff1047.jpg

Czech lusterware souvenir plate from Niagara Falls. Bought for 75 cents at the thrift.
    stuff1048.jpg

4 acid etched crystal aperitif glasses in an arts and crafts pattern. Bought for $2.00 at the thrift.

Yes, it's gorgeous. I've never heard of Awaji until now. It kind of has an Art Nouveau vibe to it, doesn't it?

    Thanks guys!

Yeah, they can run pretty high, Shi. Never seen this caddy version before. Probably dates to the first quarter of the 20th C. I'm surprised the lid is still with this piece.

Coming back from our realtor's not too long ago. Stopped in a local TS and found these for $0.25 They are marked: '© T & CO 925'. :D One missing its original backing but that's ok.

    Hi Nuff,
There are so many counterfit Tiffany items now. If you take it to a Tiffany store and it is real they will clean and polish it for you. If they refuse you can be sure it is a fake. They will NOT tell you it is a fake but they do refuse to clean and polish any NON Tiffany items.

This particular piece does but a lot of it is much more simple..... More art deco in form. It is often found in single colors and wrapped in wicker. This display has a lot of the decorated pieces in it but my experience says that it is much more rare.

This is more of what you typically find.

Is the Awaji marked in any way however minor?
One thing I like about Awaji is that it is rarely marked .

This is a piece of Awaji I found a couple years ago for $12.00 at an antique mall. At the time, I was not familiar with it and a boardie at the other place identified it for me. I think I sold this for around $200.00 so you can bet I always look for it now.

This is a typical Awaji mark ........

That wicker is critical to the value. I know. The first piece of Awagi I had had that original wicker. I tore it off thinking it was nasty looking, and the hand thrown green arts and crafts style but unmarked vase would benefit from it's removal. Then I learned of Awaji ware...and recognized the vase I tore that nasty wicker off of.

A lesson well learned though. I've had several pieces since then.
