I found these two pieces at a local shop. They hsve no marks that I could see. They have a moraje look to them. Any ideas? Thank you for any info!

I believe the word you mean is: moriage

    Hi,
I would consider those as enamel dots not moriage. Moriage is more 'toothpaste" like dragons and such which give great 3D effects. At least that is what I learned 70 years ago.

I just found this. The seller has listed as nippon. Same shape. Is that what mine are ?

They are almost certainly Japanese slip trailed vases from the early 20th century, without a mark it will be very difficult to identify the factory.

Moriage means 'heap up' in Japanese and applies to various decorative forms including enamels and gilt along with slip applied to a surface. We most commonly use the term now for Satsuma ware with trailed decoration, but it isn't a term exclusively for this.

Thanks, Greg, I'd have mis-labeled it as moriage too. :cat::joyful:

The large circular bits look like moriage with enamel on top of it. You can see what I mean if you zoom in.

I would use both slip trailed & moriage - many people searching for these items won't know the most correct term, and there isn't anything wrong using both terms for these pieces.
