    Hi Darrel!

    Welcome to Antiquers...........:cat:

You need a shade that will screw onto the fixture. Or, a shade with a clip-on. I will see if I can find what I mean on line.

My explanation is not the best, but hopefully someone will do better explaining.

The clip on type often came with boudoir lamps if you're familiar with that style.

    Adapters can be found............

The style is called a "bridge lamp"

The shade was probably glass; odds are someone busted it a long time ago. If you could find an old marigold glass shade it would look great, but use whatever fits and looks good.

I really don't think the shade was glass. I think it would be far too easy to knock the lamp over with all that weight on the end.

I've had plenty of the types of shades that had a fitting that screwed on to the lamp itself. The were on cloth/paper shades.

The other type I mention, the type with a clip could also be used, until you find the proper one.

You can see the threads on the lamp where the shade would screw onto.

    I found this............

"The appropriate shade for such lamps has an uno fitter that is threaded and screws onto the bottom end of the socket. Bridge arm lamps the most common type of lamp that takes a shade with an uno fitter".

It kind of looks like there are threads on the outside of the bulb holder as tho something screwed onto the outside, plus,I wouldn't be so sure that that bulb holder with the pull chain is original to the lamp. It looks wrong and clumsy especially if there is a lamp shade over/under it.

As stated by Judy, the uno fitting is the way to put a shade on it, glass or other. Your taste in shade and/or need for the type of illumination needed is your own. After you decide on that just get the correct fitting for that type of shade.

I like glass and wanted downward illumination. I got the correct fitting, the one with the three little screws to hold the glass, and voilà. Both of mine are adjustable to either let the socket hang down or point outward. Yours look to have a knob for this as-well.

The base of these lamps are usually weighted to stand upright. The shades are not very heavy either.

I have a plethora of shades and glass but can't find a glass one that the fitter is long enough to cover socket due to the leaves. I assumed they wrapped around glass. The base is wood no weights but is surprisingly steady. Hey guys I appreciate the help with this and being nice about it. I have tried other sites and was either shunned or mislead.

Well, @CECELIA G SWART , what kind of shade do you have on yours? Is yours an original shade or a replacement? Want to show us all? I want to see too! :)

  17. just a plain cream colored pleated shade that falls off the screw threads all the time. bought it in NY in a lamp store in Saugerties, NY. they ordered it. works well as the lamp does adjust.

This is a pretty common problem, as the threads are shallow and the socket covers are soft metal. It helps to put some super glue on the threads before screwing the shade on.

Thank you, Brad, always the voice of common sense. Thank you.

  20. i put masking tape around the fixture it helps with the threads. i should try dental floss as i used it in Ny to tighten the lamp fixture to the base on wall in bathroom.
