It's headed to an antique dealer. It won't melt any time soon if he has any say about it. The guy's a victoriana junkie.

 

Big score Saturday, less than $40. after using a coupon. Alvin sterling coffee pot, teapot, cream & sugar and a Fisher sterling water pitcher.


And two small bags of miscellaneous sterling for less than $9.

I saw the Alvin pieces on the cart and knew they had to be sterling, had to put my poker face on as not to attract the other pickers until the worker opened the isle back up with them on the shelf. I was so excited at getting them I didn’t look at the water pitcher until going back in for a second look.

 

again.....who is throwing away silver ???

I'm pretty sure I set a record this week....Sometimes I get too busy to take proper time to post. Here's the run down from this week (yes, you read that right, just this week):

-24 piece sterling flatware set
-34 piece sterling flatware set
-66 piece sterling flatware set
-55 piece sterling flatware set
-488 gram sterling bowl
-Coin silver spoons
-Italian Chocolate 800 silver pot
-Flatware set with at least 42 pieces of sterling (maybe many more, not yet received)
-46 flatware pieces (unknown if any are sterling yet)
-35 piece sterling flatware set
-45 piece sterling flatware set
-Tiffany Sterling Silver Creamer, Sugar bowl and tongs
-26 piece sterling flatware set

Total price paid for all item above approximately $1550...so it's been an insanely good week.

I bought quite a bit this week, but my favourite find was also by far the cheapest. Over 2kg (about 5lb) of hand hammered copper with a hand cut dovetail joints at both the base and the shoulder. The verdigris so thick down parts of the front it looks more like jade than metal now. Cost me well under the scrap price of the copper!

 

Turkish? Whoever made that knew what he was doing, wherever it came from.

 

The star and crescent design certainly places it from an Islamic majority country.

Yes, almost certainly Turkish, and appears to be a working item, not a tourist piece.

 

Just for you, I polished it a little, there is initials “FWG” and it’s got a date inscribed on the top, March 28, 1911.

 

And a bunch of odd sterling picks today for $36+. I have too much polishing to do between this and Saturdays picks.
