This small (2 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" diameter at its largest point) reverse painted bowl is from the reseller's treasures. It came with a wooden stand, but who knows if it is original. There is some paint loss, so it looks dirty, and I'm don't know how to clean it without damaging it more. The glass is not translucent, but I don't think you can call it opalescent. In searching, I found a lot of lampshades and snuff bottles but no small bowls. I couldn't find a signature or a mark. Can anyone help me pin this down? Comments, thoughts, leads, search terms or anything would be appreciated.

Great searching!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't find anything at all. It looks like mine is missing the lid. Perhaps that is why I couldn't find anything. It is not a bowl. I will follow up on those search terms. I appreciate your efforts very much! Thank you.

I'm so amazed you found all of these and I couldn't find even one. I appreciate you tracking them down. It looks like there must have been a time when these small art objects were popular. I'm sad that mine no longer has its lid, but that fact doesn't detract too much.
I was startled by the word "Antique" in the ad. The seller does have some credibility issues, though, as the item description is "This miniature Chinese snuff bottle is reverse painted from the inside of bottle. It has its original ruby red glass stopper.
Inner painting (内画), also known as inner drawing or inside painted, is a Chinese art form. Tiny bottles are painted from the inside with small angled paintbrushes. To paint the inside of the bottle, the artist must paint backwards. Concentration is crucial to make precise strokes." :)

This technique was popular for Chinese export ware in the 18th-20th centuries, but the technique itself is much older. Some Roman examples are extant from the 3rd century BC.

So you think my piece could possibly be older? I know there was a time when Asian was the thing.

    Looks mid-20th century to me.
