I found an early 1900s National cash register that a guy has and wants $300 for it. I was wondering if this would be a good purchase? It’s in good condition just needs to be cleaned up.

Need photos, and people who will know need the model number. I’m cash-register-bankrupt so can’t help, sry.

In the 1900's every store had one...so for $300 smackers...it had better be special...

Yes everyone had a lot of things in the early 20th century so I don’t understand your comment. What makes something valuable as an antique is not the abundance of something in the past, it’s the shortage of something now.

Unless the brand is unusual, with marble and unusual features, $300 is about the going rate here in Northern CA.

If it is for yourself, it's something you have always wanted, it's in good condition and you don't mind spending the money - then go for it.

If you think you are going to sell it for higher than you paid, look at my first sentence.

It does have marble. I have pictures of it but the files are too large to post on this site.

Just email the photos to yourself, most email programs shrink them in the process. Then save them off the received email.

Hi and WELCOME Jory!! Have you seen the cash register in person, and punched EVERY KEY???? Just thinking....there's a LOT of difference between someone saying it's in great condition and YOU making SURE it's in GREAT condition!!!! AND THEN, buy it FIRST because you LOVE it.....secondly because you MAY want to sell it someday!!! Good Luck with it!!!:):)

No I have not tried to verify if a 100 year old cash register works because that would be completely ridiculous. We live in 2018! It’s an antique! Would you value a 150 year old butter churn based on it’s ability to churn butter? I think I’ve come to the wrong place, lol

No you haven't come to the wrong place.
You have to open your mind to new ideas to learn something.

In the antique world if the cash register were not in operating condition, the value would fall.
