Hello all. My uncle left me 3 boxes of gold rimmed china dishes. they're backstamped "royal kent poland" and are quite beautiful. I know nothing about them however. Is anyone familiar with them?[IMG]

Janet, yes I have, but I'm not sure what to do with that information. I'd like to know if this china has any value, if it's old, etc.

Hello and welcome to the board.

Did you find the pattern on replacements? Can you post a link to your pattern?

I can't see your pictures. You probably need to resize and follow the instructions in the link posted by i need help.

I was unable to find any company called Royal Kent. That clues me in that this company may not be very old. The word "Poland" could refer to the pattern or the country of origin. I suspect country of origin is the most likely in this case. The "Royal Kent" was added to imply a relationship to the old potteries in England. The Chinese and Japanese practiced this implied relationship on their labels too. The upshot is I believe your china was produced in Poland sometime after the end of the cold war.

In general identifying china made in Poland can drive me a bit crazy. They produce a limited number of shapes which they then decorate in all kinds of different decorations (usually florals). Despite the different decorations the china usually does not have a distinctive pattern name notated on the bottom. The impressed numbers aren't much help. I think you'll find the numbers on the bottom of each piece is a shape number.

Sorry I can't give you better information but until more information comes out of Poland I don't think we'll make much progress. It, like most of the china coming out of Poland, is lovely. If you need replacement pieces or want to enlarge your set I would keep an eye on Replacements and on eBay auctions. More pieces should turn up eventually. Best of luck!

This appears to be your pattern on Replacements.

https://www.replacements.com/webquote/rktrkt17.htm (Note that the main picture makes the gold trim look grey.)

The prices look low, but remember that that site is notorious for high prices in comparison to eBay, so if your intent is to sell, you might be better off selling the set locally to avoid eBay fees.
