Porcelain/China Head Doll Sailor Motif

Hello antiquers!

We have this doll for you today, and we're trying to find out more about its origin, specifically the number "9" on the back of the head. Any info on this piece would be greatly appreciated!!

 

From your picture, she looks like a blond flathead china doll. Her high heel boots are later than the earlier flat shoes. Perhaps she dates from the late 1800's to early 1900's.

The 9 is most likely the mold #.

She has pale blue eyes, high color cheeks.

Dress appears to be silk......as true with most antique silks, it is not in good condition.

Cross, Anchor & Heart meant Faith, Hope & Charity and were popular jewelry motifs in the Victorian era. Your title seemed to indicate the doll itself had a sailor theme. I think her dress design was for Hope.

 

Oh, I had not even noticed the anchors in the fabric. Good eye!
