Good morning, this is my first post, so please be gentle with me

clearing through my late parents odds and ends, I’ve found this small, circular copper box. Mum used to say it was a Snuff Box, but I’m not sure.
So, my questions are, can anyone identify who the King & Queen are? I think it may be King Charles ll. I’m guessing the box is British.
Any help will be gratefully received.
    Thanks.

Could you please edit your post to have the image as full size?

Also, photos of the base and interior are handy. It does look like Charles II to me.

Going by the hairstyles, I'd say it's Charles II and Catherine of Braganza?

Thanks for this. As a family, we thought it probably was Charles II and Catherine. So your confirmation is very welcome.
What intrigues is the Crown, between them. I wonder if it is from that period or a later manufacture? It’s only made of copper, so clearly not an expensive or rich persons item.

It's odd, it's not his crown.

Looks as if it was copied from the coin.

My first thought was a patch box but the bare copper had me puzzled since I would expect enamel or silver. Then I was browsing in the "Wanted" forum and came across the entry for old percussion cap tins. Could this be one?

thanks for this. Looking at the ones posted, it does seem likely. The tin is clearly not high quality, as it is made of copper and quite roughly finished.

Percussion caps didn’t exist before the 1820s.
    Charles second died in 1685.

excellent point. I can’t see why an ordinary copper percussion cap tin made after the 1820’s would have Charles ll on it.
    Back to square one.....

Could it be a pill box? Ah, the mysteries.....

I have this one, copper, similar size but with a hinge and looks as if the inner is tin. Might be French due to Fleur de Lis. Not as nice as yours, mine has been over polished too. Sadly I don’t know what mine was for either!

Your one looks a lot more substantial than mine. I’ve found a dealer that deals with ‘percussion Cap Tins’ who is curious about it. I’ll let you know what he comes up with.

Yep, kinda my thoughts. I guess my real question now is if it is contemporary to Charles ll or a more modern copy
