Certainly have no wish to become involved in any 'Mom likes you better' kind of discussion - but in truth, had it not been brought up by someone other than a moderator, most of us would have had no idea there was an issue, since it was just removed without comment. On the two sites where I moderate, we are required to note an edit, with citing the reason suggested and preferred - suspect the friendly, 'relaxed' atmosphere here resulted in the less obvious edits...

Since I have certainly seen it before, just didn't think before moving it to the proper thread
My feelings are not hurt over MOM and not trying to stir anything. No one else may have noticed but the 2 involved, just wanted to come here and talk about antiques, no worries, just seemed like a little dig, but its ok no biggie

    Here is my stand.

The eBay boards had a strict prohibition about no "offers to buy/sell".
The ONLY times I ever reported posts/threads there were just such posts/threads.
I reported EVERY ONE that I saw.
If allowed the forums would soon be reduced to little more than a marketplace.

    The same rule applies here.
The only posts I've ever edited as a mod have been "offers to buy/sell"
I thought I got 'em all but hey, I can't be here 24/7.
Nuff, the only time I ever edited your posts was a previous offer to sell.
You can take a look but I don't think you will find too much in the way of "offers to buy/sell" posted.

    Now....I must come clean.
Spring's posts about the cannon auction really struck me as "self promotion" and I still feel maybe I/we should have struck them down. The thing was I felt as a group we didn't have one among us who was in the market for a cannon, and the INFORMATION/KNOWLEDGE packed into those posts was outstanding. I was hoping Spring's intent was the sharing of this information...and a little showing off of a justly proud collector.

Speaking as a moderator, everyone is treated equally, period.

I know we all admire others things here, sometimes people show interest with no intention of breaking rules. I didn't have a problem with Springs posts, and if someone were doing that as a selling method...I agree but we were just chatting on the finds thread. My little tea pot started simmering slowly and I just felt the need to reply.....

    That's fine.

I've said my piece. I'm done with it.

The twist seems to be a 1870-1880 thing

lol. For age the shape is surprisingly fairly common. Duhme is the maker. That is why I've held onto them, doesn't seem right that the resale is about $100 (paid pennies, but still)

yes, it is a match, but my engraving looks nicer. I've used that site before when I had a bunch of coin silver to ID a couple years ago.

I had a rather fine find tonight. went to a local auction and got chatting to a friendly dealer. She and I were both intertested in a jools lot - she wanted the costume stuff, me the Navajo ring. So, she buys the lot, me having agreed to buy the ring. I get a Navajo silver marked, coral, turquoise, bear claw ring for SEVEN DOLLARS. (She's a very nice woman, genuinely.)

    Interesting.

As I said before in my last post: why bother? I totally understand...I totally understand the politics. It's your world (board)...boss, I'm just visiting it. You can allow the bending or breaking of the rules as you see fit. Who am I to speak-out against the hypocrisy in this here democracy?

CX & Trip. Very nice finds.

Great image, Trip. Love the way the silver took against the black & white background.
