I picked up this stoneware vase (or jug?) at an estate sale in the neighborhood and am wondering if anyone can read the text (I'm not even sure the language) to give some idea of what it's meant for. Maybe alcohol storage? It's about 14in high and quite heavy. There's nothing written on the bottom. Thanks in advance!

Thank you! Do you know what it says? Is it a decanter, or a bottle for a specific brand?

The characters on the first photo are ι…’εΊ— which mean "wine/liquor shop." I concur that it's most likely a sake bottle.

Found several shards of broken ones outside of an air vent at the end of a 40 meter cave on the property my ex and I owned near Mt. Apo in Mindanao..... It would seem the Japanese troops had a fairly decent supply of alcohol shipped in at one time ......
