I have no idea, but it looks like it should be electrical.

My one guess would be a buzzer at a shop or hotel to ring for the bellhop or other employees. Possibly even for a wealthy family calling for their hired help. *shrugs*

Some kind of electrical manifold? Multiple outlet? Something electrical.

I'm guessing that a button or toggle comes out the end, so some variety of on-off switch? Lights? Bell? Something of that variety.

    I imagine that it's something like these old-fashioned turn-toggle light-switches:

Made OF china, more likely! :p

But yes, I think it's an old-fashioned light-switch cover. And a very fancy one, too!

One set of my Grandparents had similar ones in their house in town. I know they were still there and in use as late as about 1970.

That's very interesting... it would be fun to have one.

WOW, and selling a lot too. None of them come close to the beauty of mine, but alas, mine is missing pieces. Now all I need are the instructions how to fix it, :)
