Featured Coal Mine Auger

I was on a mission to fetch a large item in NW PA yesterday, and dealer who had my rotary hardware bin also had a pile of these, so I bought ‘em too. Those pictured in link aren’t mine but pix are good and I didn’t have time to photo mine at the moment. I got the pile cheap, and will use them in art and other non-mining projects. Other antique purchase was an elaborate brass and iron child’s bed, painted white.

More to the point, what are you going to do with a pile of coal augers?

 

I was picturing Mrs Spring drilling for fossilized political effluvium, or water to cool the cannon foundry they really could use. Line the well with pallet wood?

 

Ok since a pichur is woit a towsund woids, ...The thingy in the pile with the rectangular handle is the item I’ll use frequently. I dunno what it is called but the far end of it takes a right angle for the last 5”, and has a sharp point. I’m guessing it was used to hook and drag heavy wooden beams. I use such tools to move lightly-loaded pallets that aren’t in a good position to be moved via pallet jack, or where using the tool is a lot quicker..

 

Pic 2 looks like would come in handy if you need to mix up a hundred gallon milkshake at any point.

Wow! 55 machines, many monsters among them! One is built around a car-sized solid granite block! Now couldn’t I have fun with it! So thanks. I’ll have to let my rigger see it and give me a quote, he lives right near it. Interesting, they only give ya 3 hours for inspection, barely enough to check out a couple of the machines, IF power is available!

Hi Spring, Any idea why offerup would geo-ban Australia and regions from their website? I've never encountered this before. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a world wide website I think.

I do appreciate the notice of the machinery auction in nearby Richmond, VA. I drove there on inspection day and checked things in detail, finding about a dozen pieces I bid on this AM, and won maybe half of them. I’ve engaged a rigger I know who will move the items to my biz, a couple hrs drive, for $1500., other rigger’s quote was a lot more. Here are some pix. From the auction catalog, not very good photos.

 

It's a good thing you have a warehouse. By the time you bring in the goodies you may need another one.

 

Have 3 of them now, hope I don’t have to rent a 4th!

 

This is one reason I collect jewelry instead of heavy equipment. It's probably no cheaper, but at least storage fees are lower.

 

Here’s a cute ‘lil radial drill I’ll probably have to pass up ‘cause it is kinda hard to move. Note the 4’ tall pedestal grinder to the right, and 8’ tall shelving behind. It is available for close to scrap metal price. Cryin’ shame, it’ll probably go to scrap even though it works fine.
