@Mill Cove Treasures Thanks, that's it! You'd think ebay's search engines would have suggested that, since I danced all around it - but then it IS ebay's search we speak of

As long as he isn't stealing their food, most likely. Maybe. Knowing cats, Mr Brad is going to need to know who's boss. (It's not him.)

@bercrystal Not yet.....I'm not pressing the situation. Have been doing research online which is mainly common sense - take it slowly, brief sessions, make sure dog is exercised before, etc. I live in a late 1800s building with a wrought iron gated entrance and huge stairwell so he stays out there most of the time....it's a loft, so just one large room save for the tiny bathroom so no way to separate. As soon as his fleas are under control I'll set up his large crate and let him sleep inside so that everyone gets used to each other.

He is such a good boy that I don't see a problem, just going slowly for the kitties...

    LOL @evelyb30 :D

Rufus, I am SO glad you kept him! He - and the kitties - will adjust!

By the way, the original owner sent the police over collect him, and I sent them right back with an emphatic NOPE. Turns out he has been in trouble with animal control many times (he lives nearby and has 22 PIT BULLS in the city (backyard puppy mill; Brad was the stud).
The guy showed up himself a few days later being super nice - "aw heck, you can just keep him, would you like a puppy also?" and actually had nerve to ask if I would LOAN HIM for breeding. I calmly explained that no, BP was already scheduled to be neutered, and I would not hesitate to remove HIS as well if he didn't remove himself from my sight QUICKLY.

@SBSVC Me too! He is incredibly wonderful :D

A good flea bath or two will do wonders. He may need to be wormed too, just in case. A lot of critters who live outside for a while get them.

OMG, Rufus! I am SO glad you didn't hand him over!

I once adopted an English setter - a former GRAND CHAMPION show dog who'd ended up (for awful reasons) at stud in a puppy mill - via a rather clandestine operation involving the original (very above-board) breeder. In short, I drove some 3 1/2 hours & picked up the dog, at a pre-arranged time, in the parking lot of a Friendly's restaurant, from a person I'd never seen before.

That pupper was with us for many years and was absolutely the BEST BEHAVED dog I ever had! This was Chancellor: img0 (2).jpg

(We had him neutered immediately, too.)

@evelyb30 I have bathed him twice using Dawn detergent - 1st time was easy & he seemed to enjoy it. 2nd not so much, omg wish I had video - got him lathered & he refused to be rinsed, running wild. Do you recommend another shampoo?

@SBSVC I love Chancellor! What a gorgeous guy. MrPit is also so darn well behaved, we get nice comments on the street constantly - and none of it came from me really; he's just really smart & eager to please. I'm still very much a cat person & while I've always loved dogs in general there really is nothing like owning one, especially this goon. Just a wholly wonderful experience and I'm so happy he found me.

Thank you, antique-ers, for allowing me to blather on about these animals. I'm equally passionate about antiques!

Not really; I haven't had to give a cat a flea bath in years, and never a dog. (never had a dog)

Brad Pit is really a gorgeous guy, and so well named!!!
I saved and raised 2 blue tit chicks, named them Pitt and Bulle (bubble), carrying them everywhere in a covered basket to be able to feed them all day.
Someone in a restaurant was intrigued, and told me "your handbag is making strange noises":hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

With all your efforts to introduce him properly to the kitties, it will work fine, I'm sure!
The crate for night is an excellent idea, the kitties will see and sniff his odor and be sure they are safe around him, getting used to him quietly:)

Good one Rufus! Some shameless "breeders" should get neutered too:punch::hilarious:

Oooh! Chancellor was sooo beautiful and seems happy doggy with you :woot::happy: You did very well saving him!

Rufus, my rascals twins were covered by thousands of fleas:facepalm: when I got them as 2 months old "free puppies" ... Frontline spray did the job wonderfully:joyful:

It seems Antiquers is full of antiques AND animal lovers:rolleyes: It is always a joy to read about both ;)

Your best bet is to put him on a flea preventative. Nexguard is what I use for my dogs. I've used it for years with no issue. If you don't want to give a pill, I'd use Frontline which is a topical that you put on their back. I think you'll have a hard time controlling the fleas without some kind of preventative. He should also be on heartworm preventative if he isn't already, especially since you're in the south. If he hasn't been on heartworm medicine, please have the vet check for them before you get him neutered. You don't want to put him under if heartworms are present.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me. I've had dogs for many years and am active in rescue. Thank you for helping him.

@sch3gsd Thank you! I bathed him just for immediate relief, neglected to say I gave him Comfortis (pill) on June 12, and I'm not impressed. It seems these fleas are increasingly immune to meds; I battle them on the cats as well. I'll try Nexguard.
I'm saving now to have a thorough checkup before the neuter and heartworms are definitely a concern, so will look into a preventative. Thank you again - will PM if questions arise :D

I use Advantage II? on my indoor cats, works wonders. I have used it (half an adult dose) on kittens without harm.

On another topic, wait until I get pictures of what I found today. I went out while it was still comfortable and hit a moving sale, expecting not much. A lady went back in the house, pulled out her jewelry box and sold me most of it without me looking inside too hard. That way I didn't feel too guilty. She pulled out her wedding ring, a divorce was the reason she was moving (but the ex was right there and acting friendly enough) and some watches and gave me a price of $30 for the rest. I offered her $40 so I wouldn't feel like such a vulture, but she wouldn't take it. There's gold in that there box....

The stuff I photographed is a mix of things from an antique store on Thursday and other pieces from a sale today. That funky glass pendant was one I was going to ask about. Then I saw a weird mark in one of the pictures taken from the back .... Baccarat! Whoops! No wonder I couldn't read the bitty hallmark; the French ones are notoriously small. The white pin is Miriam Haskell, and those beads are bench beads. Sterling. The price for this whole pile plus some scrap silver was $41. The antique dealer is a guy who buys sterling. Did he ever miss the boat. The Baccarat sold for at least $200 new.

I sorted it out tonight. Pulled out the costume for redonation. The silver alone is worth about $60 in melt, factoring out at least some of the stones. I haven't checked the gold, but since it's mostly modern mass-production it'll mostly land in the melt pile. It's not a big pile, but I still did OK.
