Featured Victorian Burr Walnut Revolving Bookcase w/ revolving Candlestick

To start with can anyone confirm the burr walnut and the Victorian assumption I’ve made haha.

I’ve always admired these and when I saw this one, I couldn’t help it I went mental and went all in to what my bargain hunting budget would allow. With a ridiculous estimate of £20-40 and my auto bid of £150 I waited paitentally. Luckily I watched the auction online too as the £150 bid went to a bidder in the room, a few second later and my bookcase is mine on paper for £160 with commission just under £200.

I’m reckoning Victorian, it is 100% Old so I’m only really debating Edwardian or Victorian. The candlestick will be my main idea. When was electricity truly integrated into richer homes where this likely would have been. But the presence of a candlestick still wouldn’t say too much about date.

I plan on seeking out professional restoration as it has split in places and the rotating pieces which is every piece xD are a little wobbly. Two dowels are missing and a rail has come away from the wood. Still a bargain to me. In good condition full retail is over £1000. In present condition I still have no worries at £200

Yp, burr. As in, an outcrop growth on a tree, also known as a gall, caused by a wee insect.

 

Everyone knows it took yanks to show limeys how to properly build furniture

how come ? you should have more than enough Germans and Scandinavians around to do such things. tell the Germans they work near Frankfort and they'll feel at home.

 

Who were Dutch to begin with anyhow, "Jan Kees" the original Yankee.

 

They were the guys who let the Brits take Manhattan from them in the 17th century, naturally the yanks took it from the Brits in the 18th so it all worked out!

 

Pity they can't speak it!
