Welcome, EnglishHouse! (I am sure a more established member will be along to greet you shortly and/or you might want to introduce yourself with a post here.)

V&B is certainly a possibility. Are you saying you recognise this specific bowl, EH?

Wonderful help from many posters, who would have thought that people could be so knowledgeable and spend their time helping a stranger! I do try to help others myself but what little I know has usually been said by someone else earlier. It is interesting that sellers found online vary in their descriptions of similar bowls, I've found one describing a bowl as Italian majolica and anther as French Limoges, both probably mistakenly for WMF. Now I have new search terms - Art Nouveau, Jugenstil, mussel or salad bowls, WMF, Villeroy & Boch. Mine seems a rather rare example, but I hope to track down one eventually with a fuller description than the one on Worthpoint.

Villeroy & Boch would have been marked as such, I'd go for a copy of the WMF Series.
The WMF bowls existed in three different sizes, some came with a matching lid and/or cutlery/serving pieces.

Yes, the identified bowls online have all been marked, and I'm wondering if this is a copy, maybe a Japanese copy, of the style. It could have arrived in the country with a little "Foreign" sticker, which I think is how a Japanese item might have been marked between the wars, and then the sticker fell off or was taken off. Unless a definitely identified one like this turns up, I'm beginning to think it will have to remain just a lobster bowl, to be sold for itself rather than the maker.
