My cousin does that dancing and also Georgian, too. And the whole singing thing.

I used to do that too, on stage. All sorts of Balkan dances, and I was the lead singer, mainly Bulgarian songs. Because I was the smallest dancer of the group I also led quite a few dances, twirling a knotted cloth, great fun.
I never danced Georgian dances but danced a lot of Armenian, loved that. Graceful arm and hand movements and complicated foot 'gymnastics'.
    And Flamenco, of course.
Unfortunately I had to stop when I could no longer remember choreographies and my muscles wouldn't cooperate anymore.
I can still do a Makedonsko Horo though, nice and simple. We did it the Gypsy way, with more hip movement.

This looks like fun! And I bet the food was good, too!
This has inspired me to make stuffed grape leaves for dinner tonight.

    Yay, inspiration through dance!
I am also having stuffed grape leaves tonight, but mine come in a Turkish can.:shame: I am sure they are pure junk compared to what you'll be making. I love them home made, but I don't cook anymore.

I was raised eating them Syrian style(with meat}, but tonight I will make "yalanchi", which is the vegetarian Armenian version.
Maybe I'll serve them on my sterling plate! But mine doesn't have turquoise cabs......

Sounds yum. I don't eat meat, so vegetarian is fine.
Doesn't need to have, 'plain' sterling is beautiful.

When I was ten, we moved into a three-flat owned by an Armenian couple, in addition to telling me about surviving the Armenian genocide (their holocaust), they fed me wonderful food, including stuffed grape leaves, a mashed potato salad, and another yummy salad with tomatoes and cucumbers that tasted like tabbouleh without the bulgur, but my absolute favorite, and still remember the taste 50+ years later, was a type of steak tartare balls - sooo good! Dammit, now I'm hungry...

I adore any kind of Middle Eastern related food. I've Lebanese neighbours: husband is a chef and every so often he brings me care packages.

I need Lebanese cook neighbors! And stuffed grape leaves! We used to get dolmas in salad bars here, when we had salad bars. They were Greek style from a can, but they're yummy. The tinned ones were rice only. No meat.
