    Yes, I've responded a couple of times before realizing it is an old post.
    I think new people see the related posts click on them and respond without seeing the original date. I've done it myself a couple of times.

    @daveydempsey
    Is there any way to bold the original date, make it larger or somehow more nociticeable.

    I apologize. I am new to this site and was so excited to find this thread, I just jumped in. It won't happen again.

    As a still relatively new member, I rather enjoy it when an older post is resurrected by a new comment because it brings things to my attention I would otherwise miss. I love these 'cherry' spoons. And I did the same thing at first, put in my 2 cents of knowledge anywhere it seemed it would have been useful, even though no longer timely for OP. Truly a case of better late than never, when it comes to additional knowledge.

    Did I miss something - we shouldn't post on old threads and they should be 'retired', even if additional information can be added, or if there is someone with interest in the subject? Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, but it seems easier to keep information together in fewer threads than have numerous threads on the same or similar items/subjects - there are always going to be lots of redundant posts, and if someone runs across an old thread, or even hunts up one to add onto, not sure I understand why it should be a problem...

    I’m just asking for any additional information, if there is any. Wherever anyone wants to put post it, would be fine with me. Just trying to help. :)

    I'm going to agree with both Bronwen and Cheryl here: I LIKE it when old threads are re-opened! Not only does this get "new eyes" on the original query and perhaps allow for comparisons of like items, but it also exposes all of us to things we either missed or weren't here for the first time around.

    I will always excuse anyone who forgets to check the date after a post has been re-opened. It's no big deal in my book!

    Sometimes it's useful. I've had information pop up on things of mine that never were solved originally. Even if it's "too late" it might be of use to someone else down the line.

    Here's that snippet (hope I attached it correctly). At least it does help date these spoons (1939) IMG_20180626_010112.jpg IMG_20180626_010112.jpg IMG_20180626_010112.jpg and confirms their usage "Old Fashioned Cherry Spoons...silver plated spoons flattened on bottom for crushing sugar" in an Old Fashioned c IMG_20180626_010112.jpg ocktail.

    Well, I did something wrong...too many snippets but better than none I guess. In any case, as I tried to say, it does date it to 1939 and does tell you what the spoons were made for, crushing sugar in an Old Fashioned.

    You can edit your post by hitting 'Edit' at the bottom, right next to the time posted.

    Here is a low quality image of the Abercrombie & Fitch ad, thought I had one from a British publication, but don't find it, may be in my misplaced external hard drive...

    Thanks, Barn Owl. They call these spoons " jelly spoons" in that Etsy listing. I think few people really know what they were intended for. The original " Old Fashioned" cocktail was made with a lump of sugar and these spoons were served in the glass for the imbiber to use to completely dissolve that sugar.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    My thoughts exactly! I enjoy the resurrection of old posts. The only time I wonder if somebody should start a new thread is if a new item is being asked about and the new requester has photos, etc. There is no problem with adding those to an existing thread but sometimes I think the person will get more replies if they post a new thread.

    And, everybody, it seems easy enough to check the dates on posts if you don't want to add to old threads. I've sometimes forgotten to do that before posting but I don't think it's a problem to check the date.
