Are my scruffy urchins Porcelain or Resin?

I have just had this delivered having bought it on Facebook Market. It isn’t old, between 20 and 25 years, but I think it is lovely, and fine to pass on to one of my granddaughters.

So far, I have determined that the base and upright are marble. Off-white, translucent, grey veins, I would have expected it to be of Italian origin; but perversely think it might be Spanish Macael White, using a trade catalogue as my reference guide.

The young girl has an incised mark ‘NIGRI’. It belongs to an Italian company that manufactures figurines of cats, and produces a wide range of chess sets in historic styles in resine. Models are hand painted ‘with a brush’, according to a label I have seen; but not specifically associated with my bookends.

Very little is published about NIGRI, but read, somewhere, that they did, or had, at some time produce a small volume of porcelain figures.

What I want to discover is are my figures RESIN or PORCELAIN? Is there a way of telling? Looing forward to all your wise words and advice.

Lots of Nigri chess sets. They seem to be resin composite - maybe marble dust.

I'd heard of mixed marble dust and resin, and thought it might be. What surprised me was the amount of detail, e.g. separation or fingers and toes. Previous to this I've only handled one of those long skinny Chinese figures (fake ivory) and they a full of flash. The cats and children have realistic eyes about 2mm with an iris in the centre. One can look up the hem of the girls dress; but I suppose silicone is wonderfully pliable.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

What an awesome gift they’ll be, as I think they ARE lovely!!!

P.S. (Have NO clue if resin or not, but TO ME, they just DON’T LOOK it!)

    I'd suspect marble dust composite.

@Aquitaine @Ownedbybear If I manage to find out, I shall make sure to let you know. I approached a Parisian stockist, but they have not replied; now will go to what I believe to be the manufacturer in Italy.

    Thanks for your help.
