I found these at my local thrift store today. Are they cloisonne or just painted metal? What's the difference?
Can someone tell me what the characters on bottom of bowl say/mean?
    How old are these?
Thank you for any information, it is appreciated.

Yep cloisonne. Nice lot. Not sure what the mark says on bottom though.

    That's it!
Ps - mark on bottom is xx - the candlesticks were $9.95 (xx - the mark showed their was another piece to this one for the price)
    The bowl was also $9.95!

Another question please - I looked up some others using the title in the link rink28 provided, and a lot said 'ground porcelain' and enamel - I would swear mine is made of metal - but a magnet doesn't stick to it - I'm sure it's not porcelain, so what is it made of?
Thank you (and thank you rink28!)

That probably refers to the Cloisonné work journey

The base metal is probably brass

Copper or brass, both are non magnetic. Very nice find. I'd say copper.

These are definitely Chinese cloisonné. The mark on the bottom says approx.-- made during the Great Ming. So marked Ming Dynasty. These are not from the Ming Dynasty, but still have age (based on the cloud patterns). They are great pieces of Chinese cloisonné and worth much more than what you paid. Of course, collectors prefer them to be in near perfect condition. *I specialize in mostly Japanese cloisonné, but I am pretty confident in this information.

It says 大明 年造 - made in Ming dynasty. As already said this is of course not correct. They are 1950-1970. You can find the same model with the word China painted on the bottom, and with no marks at all. They are often sold on ebay as 'antique'.
