Old, seen better days, ideas on age/maker of teapot?

Any ideas on this piece? Especially an idea of age and where made? Thanks in advance.

 

Probably British, mid to late 19th, emulating fine silver. Ivory finial and insulator on the handle. I'm afraid it has almost no value.

 

OBB is right. Late 1800s to the early 1900s (maybe as late as the 1920s?) and most likely English. But yes, very, very hard to sell / value these things. Silverplate-ware is almost impossible to sell. Unless it's in fantabulous condition - it goes for pennies a pound.

 

Family item. Could it possibly be from Scotland? Ancestors were.

 

It's most likely to have been made by one of the myriad makers round Birmingham. They sold stuff all over.

 

Thanks OBB and Shangas. Your answers were so thorough; it really is interesting to know the history of these items. Had a valued place on the china cabinet through the years, guess it was thought expensive at its time for a coal mining family.

 

Irrelevant, but, apart from other considerations, design-wise, I like it. If it had been handed down to me, I would cherish it.

 

Absolutely! Definitely has sentimental value for family. Can picture hubby's Grandma or Great Grandma using it.

 

If you can get silver plate solution, might be worth trying to refinish it.

 

OBB, good idea! Though hubby may prefer to keep the wear and patina..
