Found this at an estate sale in Virginia. Any Asian furniture experts? Carvings look too clean and crisp for it to be all that old, maybe made for the tourist trade?

    It is very nice, Nicole.
Could you take more pictures? Back, sides, corners, underneath.
And how big is the compartment underneath the lid?

It is a storage bench or settle, btw, and you're right, many were and are made in India. We do need to see details to give an estimate of the age and origin.

Thank you, that helps. And you managed to get them in the thread.:)
I would say India. It has been antiqued, given an antique finish. It is very nice though, a very attractive piece.

Hi Nicole and welcome. When I first saw it I thought Indonesian, but AJ is right it is Indian. Recently made, decorated to look aged but quite nice and practical as a side table or display unit perhaps.
