Some lovely pieces -- and I hope you realise that you have well and truly become part of the problem, making this board a dangerous place for people stumbling innocently by with a couple of family pieces they're curious about.

You are all correct. The stone is a sapphire. AJ guessed a green sapphire and others a blue sapphire. It's actually a blue / green sapphire and likely from Australia. Not sure if I'm buying that??
I have included a copy of the description of the ring from my gemoligist for your interest

 

Thanks Book I know I am incredibly lucky. Slowly, slowly I am getting everything cleaned up, settings checked and valuations done. It's not cheap but I get a couple of pieces done at a time. At least I know the settings are solid. I would hate to lose a stone x

It is a lovely thing, even nicer to have an Australian stone. Here is the ring I mentioned, with nine natural Montana sapphires - bit beat up because it was worn when I was tending bar, a sturdy piece, the stones fairly safe in the channel setting...
