I thought maybe one of those pneumatic messenger tubes, but seems awkward for that purpose and I didn't see any that looked like this. I did a google image search and didn't come up with anything.

About 6 inches long, hollow brass tube open on both ends with a tightly fitting brass tube insert. Insert is hollow, closed on one end and has a wooden ball at the top on the other end that can be removed. Wooden piece is held in with a little nail that goes through a hole on the tube and the wood. There are similar holes on the opposite side, and that hole in the wood seems to be plugged with a screw/nail.

    Thanks!

Just spitballing here.......I was thinking some sort of syringe, but not with that flared mouth on the open end. If you place the open end on some part of your body , can you create suction by pulling on the wooden handle of the insert/plunger?
