need help identifying this instrument

..........small ended diamond file with rubber handle (either black or dark blue)... handle is about 6 inches long.......metal end i think is diamond file.

I don't know what it is, but you can rule out jewelers files

That may not be for filing , but for etching.

 

check out 'burin'. An engraving tool, but the handle looks a bit inadequate.

 

I don't think it's a burin. Might be a chasing tool.

 

Looks to me like a scraper made from a file. There's not enough file surface left outside the added coating for using it as a file, and someone has ground the end diagonal so the front edge can be used as a scraper. You can see the distinctive shape of the broken-off file tang on the rear end, probably why it was re-purposed. Files are very hard steel, thus good material for a scraper as well as a file. I don't think u will ever find a tool like that in any catalog
