Howdy all picked this up today for 3 bucks. I gather people thought it was brass given condition. Marked RE 800.
Anyone have an idea of age at all. Gather it may be italian.
Gave it a bit of a polish. 65mmx65mm chris

Pretty ashtray. Very nice for au$3. You could use it as a trinket tray as well.
It looks like Yogya silver from Indonesia, ca 1930s, with lotus motifs. Most Yogya silver is .800, marked as such, often with the two initials of the workshop. On ashtrays they always marked on the cigarette rest.

Awesome as always AJ. Quite surprised at age will give it a good polish and show you how it ends up. Cheers and be well chris

Just remembered, I have a Yogya/Djokja ashtray. It hitched a ride with a very nicely carved Jepara box. The same hammering, and the 800 and workshop initials mark on a cigarette rest:

It has been hiding inside the box since I got it, but I really need to clean it and bend two corners back into shape. Like yours it deserves some tlc.

Don't polish it to death, the bits between the flowers are meant to be darker, like on my Yogya/Djokja lotus bracelet:

    Score, Chris! :woot:
AJ, quite the same as yours:joyful:!

Agree, of course, not a harsh polish:nailbiting:, a good wash in soapy water and silver cloth.
This intended patina in the crevices is hard to restore once took off...
