Hey @springfld.arsenal ! I have a feeling these are old Civil War rounds. If it's solid shot there isn't much to worry about unless you drop one on your foot.

Looks like maybe the bullet shaped one is some kind of Hotchkiss. I am more worried about the round one with the plug

When I hear Hotchkiss, I think of this:

Be careful until you find out! I wonder if the label is from a city starting with a D, Museum of Natural History?

When you google DMNH the Delaware Museum of Natural History comes up but would a Natural History museum have Civil War relics

It could be Denver, or any other D city., or not that at all, just guessing.
There’s 72 showning on the label underneath.

Museums get given all sorts of things. These appear to have been 'deaccessioned', after all. But if they had a display on local natural history it could have included finds from local digs, that sort of thing. The American Museum of Natural History devotes as much space to the work of Franz Boas & others who did anthropological/sociological work as to dinosaur skeletons & wildlife dioramas. It's a broad brief.

I wouldn't mind having the car. Not sure what I'd do with the cannon.

Exactly. That is why I'd rather think of the car. Having been brought up in a vintage car loving family could have something to do with it as well.:)

Yes item on left is indeed a Hotchkiss Patent projectile missing the lead sabot. Not sure of item on right. Due to certain clauses in our liability insurance I’m not commenting on what may or may not be inside. But COL John Biemeck, US Army ret. has written five books on ammo for muzzle-loading Artillery and will discuss those with you. I’m sure you can find him via Google, FB, etc, he lives in VA.
