    Hi Fredrick. Thanks again for all your help with my lovely Norwegian painting. I'm not sure I can add a lot to the information already provided, especially by AJ, but I agree the Buddha image is probably a form of local soapstone. The colour is really appropriate (and I love the shine) as it replicates nicely the celadon colour so popular in Thailand and Asia. Celadon was (and still is) quite common in Thai pottery and you can sill find beautiful 13-15th Century bowls and jars in celadon glaze. The colour is heavily influence by China ceramics of course. I think yours is a nice find as a lot of tourist Buddhas are now resin, even though they are aged and made to look more than they are. I also like the detail of the carving and the face has captured that serene look so important in Thai Buddhas. I suspect it is not very old, but the slightly rough edges on the base does indicate some wear. I think it will look quite special on your book shelf.
