Oh,no, nobody intended shooting at you!:)

« These are old rose cut diamonds from the same period as the brooch so we have been told by some diamond experts. »

Rather at the (self said?) « diamonds experts »...;):angelic:

I was ready to add, if no one had already, old mine cut diamonds. See I don't have to, so won't.

Is it odd, that flower shape applied on the bottom, mid section?

In this case, it is for holding together front and back of the piece, made in two parts! Sometimes it is a screw, intended to hold the brooch system which can be removed to adapt a hair pin/fork and use the piece as a hair ornament :)

  9. I have been searching a lot on the net and there might be similar brooches in the literature mentioned in the picture below but these books are extremely expensive on the second hand market I just saw. Does someone here have acces to these? Screenshot_2018-05-30-22-28-54.png

:playful:That's a bee infestation!;) If it is still time to remove the triple images... Nice to see them together! I never seen the Joan Rivers one, she had a BIG collection of precious antique jewellery, and took inspiration from it for her jewellery line:)

  13. OMG! So sorry, I'll try to delete some posts. The Joan Rivers version (when you look at the neck) has similar blue enamel. The rest of the work doesn't seem to be at the same level of quality and the stomac is hollow. I wonder why Sotheby's mentioned 'property of a lady with title' at theirs?

  14. Is it perhaps possible for you to post the other page in the book at the right side as well?

Other pages are not about the insect brooch, no mention of insect brooches apart the pic on the page showed:(

  17. No but I would like the read the rest of the sTory (the text continues at the other page) if possible :) story is interrupted and continues on the next page.

  19. And if anyone has access to this book and could take a look :) Screenshot_2018-05-31-18-36-33.png

Because provenance from the rich/famous/socially elevated adds cachet & helps reassure potential bidders about quality & authenticity.

I was interested in this auction of Yves St. Laurent's collection because of the cameos. There is no doubt some things sold for more than they otherwise would have, just because they had been his.
