Brass Asian Goddess

Nice looking piece but I don’t think it’s old. Any thoughts!

 

A bit interesting, but that paint job......somebody got a bit too close the the vino..... IMHO!

 

She is not a Goddess but a Buddhist angel. And you're right, not old.
She is called Teppanom, and has become a very popular souvenir.
Teppanom descended from heaven when the Buddha reached enlightenment.
Most of these are from Thailand. I see the Thai style, but she doesn't look as nicely made as the Thai Teppanom I usually see.
@AuDragon, could you tell us, is she Thai, or made elsewhere to resemble a Thai Teppanom?

 

My guess would be Thai as well, but far below the usual standard of these types of figures. Usually, the bronze or metal is quite smooth in these figures with well detailed hands and faces. I just don't see that in this object. The gold seems too heavy and poorly applied and she just doesn't have the serene look and quality in her face. I'm not completely convinced that she is "Thai", but made elsewhere for the tourist market. However, there are still many bronze/metal foundary's operating in central Thailand making gorgeous Buddha and religious objects. Could this be. student work? My other thought is that she was deliberately cast to look old and primitive, but the gold sure spoils that look. I have seen quite old ones in museums, and they certainly do look more roughly cast with surface blemishes like this one. She should also have come in a pair with her brother. I assume she is metal? Despite all that, there is something quite appealing about her and I am reminded of John Legend's song about loving all "your perfect imperfections". Here is a typical teppanom couple.
