Does this say 14K?

It's the frame of a tie-tack.

 

Is that a ' talking ' tie tack..?

It could be.....that's tough to make out...

 

Turn it around, and it looks like the 14K was stamped on the edge and the bottoms of the characters a little lost...

Evelyb, I think it is onyx - I can't think what else it could be. I looked at it carefully, hoping it was some really dark superdooper rare stone, but nope!

 

Upon reflection, I am wondering if this is tie tack, or if it is a lapel pin?
Most tie tacks I have seen have a chain thingie that would go into a button hole.

 

Looks like a tie tack to me, at least from what I can see. They didn't always have the chains.

 

Since the clutch on this is not gold, and I have some that have the chain thing, should I include one of those as well as this one?
Or is that over thinking it?

 

They never were gold; I've never found one yet with a gold clutch. No one's going to think twice about it.
