    Hello,

I was doing treasure hunting this past weekend and I managed to find this beautiful embroidery in silk. This is a very large item (length x width in inches): 114.2 x 55.1. I am currently selling it, however I would like to request your expert input on estimating the age and use of this large item. The embroidery is made on a large red silk fabric at the back there is a cloth cover (pale red). I don tknow if this would be suitable for hanging on a large wall or as a cover for a piano. I believe this is late 19th Century, I have never seen such a large piece like this before and the quality of the embroidery as you can see is very good. It is beautiful, Luis. Amazing craftswomanship.
I agree with kyra. Red is a very important colour at weddings, it stands for happiness, love, loyalty and fertility. And the usual auspicious things.
The three main gentlemen are the three auspicious star Gods, Fu, Lu and Shou. They are present in just about every Chinese home and place of business, so they are perfect for any wedding.

I can definitely imagine it having been used as a piano shawl when 'chinoiserie' was in fashion.
