18th Century Watercolors of Castles/ Signature identification

Prints are typically more my style, but I picked these up because of how beautiful they are.

Can you identify the artist?

 

This one is an etching, although it may be handcolored. Not a watercolor.

I only see one picture although there also appear to be closeup snipets showing the signature. Sig seems to be Renaud or Renard?

 

Do you mean the subject is 18th century or you think your pieces are from the 1700s? (That doesn't appear to be a castle as it isn't fortified.)

and yes! I mistyped! 19th century for sure!

What does that listing have to do with your piece? Not even close to similar I'm afraid.

 

Bakersgma, thanks for your opinion but I will have to disagree.

 

I am doubtful your pieces date to the 19th century but it would be helpful if you posted better quality photographs, including the back, as Full Image so they're easier for all to see.

In the trade, in my neck of the woods, we call these etchings "fretchings" They are usually Belgian or occasionally French and are always produced in the same colour palette. They vary in size, some quite large and some artists are known but usually not.

They are 20thc things BTW.

 

Is that not Chateau de Chambord? Perhaps we could reverse engineer the situation, ask who might have drawn French palaces?

You are spot on! Thanks for noting the location. And yes I think reverse engineering might be a good idea. I may just open up the back of the frame to see any evidence on the back.
