My Dad traded a pair of German WWII pilot's gloves for it. They were leather, with rabbit fur lining.
I don't know what the gloves were worth in 1976. I might call him up and ask him if he remembers details of the deal he made.

I don't think we suggested you discount it altogether. It is just very difficult to be sure one way or the other. The size is not unprecedented for genuine spear points/knives from some places. But describing it as "ceremonial" when its origin is unknown is probably not accurate or helpful. It really needs to be a comparison with similar pieces from known locations.

Given the number of expert point makers today, it's possibly only provable with a verifiable provenance, such as from a museum or from a known collection sold by a reputable auction house. I have a number of old points that I personally know to be genuine old ones, as my uncle used to find them back in the 1950s on the banks of the Columbia River (which may not have been legal even back then) and gave them to me, but the only "evidence" I can offer on that is testimonial, which isn't much good from an science perspective, much less in terms of valuation.
