    Chester assay mark, by the look of it. You do sometimes just get the city on wee things.

    I looked at the Chester mark as it was my first thought but it doesn't look the same.

    I love that they have not lost their stoppers - they never had any. Proud owner instructed to cover hole with tape!

    Evelyn, your gnome is a Norwegian Nisse. More like an elf, or domestic sprite as one google article put it.

    It's very worn, poison, I've seen rubbed ones like that.

    Yes, they're definitely bells though, two together and the bottom one is upside down.
    Chester is 3 sheaves with a sword down the middle.

    Take a look at Newcastle; it would look like that if rubbed half to death.

    @Poisonivy, I blew up your better image, ON SCREEN, and it looks to be 3 bells in the shield if anyone knows it!!!! Sorry, but I don't......oooooooh......mega sniped!!!!!:smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin::smuggrin: But love the thimble!!!!

    Hi,
    Just found a note in my notebooks. It says thimbles with NO rim are earlier than 1890. If it has a rim it is post 1890. No info on the information of where it is from.:oops:
    I usually cite the source of my notes.
