I purchased a set of 6 dining chairs about 15 years ago from an antiques importer with the intention of recovering them. I never got around to it and now wish to sell them. I need some help, please, to identify what they are and potentially how much to ask for them.
Here's what I know about them (or think I know): Victorian, likely walnut but could also be cherry or mahogany, carved back, turned front legs with carved detail, 5 of the 6 have the original burlap/horsehair seats, 1 needs repair to the back piece. I cannot find a marking or number on them. I cannot find any pictures on the internet.

If you could possibly tell me what they are or where to find more details, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks, Carol

If victorian, would be late victorian, i.e. turn of century or even into 20th century. Value is much better for a set of six than for a single chair, but value depends on where you are located (country and region) since most people wouldn't consider them worth shipping. Here in New England US, they would not have much value.

Thanks for that bit of information. Maybe it will help my internet searching. I'm in Georgia (US)

    Hi Carol:

I'd guess that the chairs are from the northeast U.S. or England. I'd think 1870s-80s for the date, and walnut from what I can tell.

Jeff's right about the value. Chairs are typically worth less than one might hope. Once the sixth chair is fixed, you might get $300 for the set at auction here in the U.S. Midwest. More (or less) depending on your neighborhood.

    Very attractive chairs!!

Thank you for you help! While cleaning them today, I found a sticker from an antique dealer in England underneath the sticker from the dealer in Georgia (where I purchased them). I just found the English company online, and I'm now having the idea to email them.

    I appreciate your help!

Which British company? It would not surprise me if they were born here. I think Edwardian, 1910s ish, anyhow.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    Good idea!

You bought these 15 years ago, and the market was very different then, since that was before the financial crash of 2008. Everything changed after that. And as others have indicated, furniture of that era doesn't always sell well these days. On the other hand, if you find some interesting information from the company, that might help. Too bad one of the chairs is broken.

Oh, and welcome to Antiquers, @Carol D !
