Featured WWI Ring inscription

I’ve had this ring for a while, picked up at a car boot sale but I’ve only just looked at it properly.
It looks like a trench art type piece. It doesn’t polish up.
I can’t make out the inscription so maybe one of you are able to help please?. On 1 side appears to be 1914 and in the other side 191 so presumably it was never finished which if I am correct is rather sad.

It was the only WWI/trench-related term I could think of that started with an A and fit the rest of the letters.

I thought Arras, then realised it had been said. Well done Ruth. Using battle names is quite common on these, I've seen Ypres on some.

 

I think these turned up early on more often than later. Not sure if I've seen an American one; our guys got there and the trench/boredom (until all hell broke loose) warfare went away.
