Found this splendid figure of polar bear which is the classical Royal Copenhagen design, but it carries no mark. What can that mean?

It's my understanding that every piece of Royal Copenhagen has to have a mark. There appear to be marks of some sort on the bottom but it needs closer shots. If there's nothing but gunk on the bottom it needs to be cleaned off. You can't really say it has no mark if a whole corner of the bottom is obscured.

I was able to find another example of this bear and the bottom of your bear does appear to different from other example I found. Not sure if that holds any significance or not.

Yes, that's what I think too, the base is different, it doesn't have a division. At the same time, I have a feeling that in one of the auction websites I have seen one with similar flat base and a mark, and it was pre-1935. But can't find it now... maybe just confusing with a different figure.

Is it really that no one is interested in a piece if it has no stamp?

Depends on how it costs to play? Is the item for sale? What does the seller want for it? Can you ask the seller to clean off the rest of the bottom. If you want it to add to a collection I would be tempted if the price was right. To resell, I'd want to be sure it was marked and again the price would need to be right.

It's not that no one is interested, it's that no one can say.

If what I am seeing online is correct, it was probably designed by Dahl-Jensen. He worked for Bing and Grondahl, Royal Copenhagen, and others... and apparently had his own business, so it's possible the figurine was produced by some company other than Royal Copenhagen, but beyond that, you're on your own.

Hi, thanks for replying. The price is around $35, which would be great if it had a chance to be original. I would like it rather for myself

Thanks! I didn't consider looking at the biography of the designer. Will try to check with other factories!

$35 seems reasonable to me regardless of the final attribution. It's looks very close to the RC and with moreotherstuff's information I'd be comfortable making the purchase. In fact, it could end up being quite the bargain.

Still didn't purchase it apparently, but found online a figure with a similar flat base - and it is 1901.
Shortly will travel to that store and post any updates
