    "Winternight"

O cold is the slight wind,
    and keen.
Bare and bright in dim light
    is seen,
as vast as the graces of God,
the veld's starlit and fire-scarred sod.
To the high edge of the lands,
    spread through the scorched sands,
    new seed-grass is stirring
    like beckoning hands.

    O mournful the tune
    of the East-wind refrain,
like the song of a girl
    who loved but in vain.
    One drop of dew glistens
    on each grass-blade's fold
    and fast does it pale
    to frost in the cold!

    Seems quite the chap !
It's not signed , so you'll need to get it authenticated before a value could be placed on it.
Maybe his published works , from a book dealer or publisher in Peoria would be a good starting place..

Did you ever contact the Eugene Marais Foundation? Because if this is real, it can be quite a find.

Locally seek out a dealer in autographs or a fine book dealer. They will be able to identify if what you have is pen to page or a printing of it.

Printings exist, this example matches yours...

    Hi James.
I know 100% that it is the original paper that he wrote winter nag on before they published it.
He stayed on my great grandfather's farm (same one as in the movie) when he wrote it.
He gave it to my grandfather and my grandfather gave it to my mom and my mom gave it to me.
    I will contact the foundation.

    Hi. I will.
I did contact an auction house to help.
There is no question that it is real, i just need them to authenticate it.
I am not willing to sell it, just want my documents to be right.

My great grandfather had a farm, do not know lots about him but my mom told me that it was the same farm in the movie. They did a movie about his life and they used the same farm for the shoot.
She recognized it when she watched the film.
Eugene N Marais staid by my great grandfather and he wrote "Winter Nag".
The newspaper published it and the original copy of the poam he gave to my great grandfather. He stuck a copy of his picture next to the hand written poam and a copy of the newspaper clipping when it got published.
He always talked about it to people who visited them.
When he passed away he gave it to my grandfather, who hanged it up in my moms bedroom. Still the same frame.
Since she could remember it hanged in her room.
They lived on a farm by Swart-Water.
This is a peace of history you will never get again.
