Harem pants or ? All hand stitched

    I got these the other day at thrift store in clothing pile. The material is silky thick feeling
    all hand stitched , never seen pants like these, I have seen MC Hammer ones but not like this. Any ideas on where, when, who etc. ? Or museum 035.JPG 036.JPG 037.JPG 038.JPG 039.JPG 040.JPG 041.JPG 044.JPG

    Looks like Central Asian pants made from warp ikat weave fabric. My guess for the age is ca 1950s.
    This is warp ikat weave, the warp threads are dyed before weaving:

    This is the kind of textile you get, with those jagged or fading colour edges:

    Ikat is an Indonesian word, but the technique is used in various parts of the world. Of those parts, this model pants is only worn in Central Asia and Turkish influenced regions. Although they usually make wonderful silk coats from it, like this one from Uzbekistan:

    Central Asian ikats are also worn in Turkey and I've even seen them in Kosovo (Southeastern Europe). No doubt they spread through the Ottoman empire. I used to wear an ikat coat for a Turkish folk dance, with thin stripes similar to your fabric. The pants were plain satin, though.

    So do I. I feel like I need it very badly. Come to think of it, I'm pretty certain. Getting more certain every time I look at it.:playful:
