I have a conundrum. I've always seen these canisters listed as L.E. Smith
Atterbury. There are currently 53 sold listings over the last year on eBay. I recently was provided with catalog pages showing that they are Federal Glass Show Off Jars of which there are none sold over the last year on eBay. Hopefully I can get some clarification on this. I tend to believe the catalog pages but trying to figure out why the other ID? Thank you. FederalShowOff.png FederalShowOff2.jpg FederalShowOff3.jpg

I cannot say if L E Smith and/or Federal purchased or leased moulds from each other, but it was common practice amongst factories to do this. European factories, such as Sowerby, and Bagley (in England) and Walther, Germany, exchanged & used some of each others moulds. I have also seen Fenton figurines that have been produced by European factories, and several patterns by Verlys, France, were also produced in USA including some patterns by hoffman, and Josef Inwald, too.

And misinformation easily gets perpetuated on eBay.

So true but you would think that some with the correct attribution would have been sold

I cannot imagine Federal, being able to catalogue the jars as being theirs unless they were. Not unless they had licence to produce them by L E Smith. Federal would have been sued Left Right & Centre, for theft! I would therefore say that Your example is by Federal, as catalogued by them.

this seem to fall under the category of sh*...stuff happens; someone listed a canister with multiple makers (brand name spamming) and it got repeated... there's lots to unpackage here considering the references to Imperial Glass, Atterbury Scroll. Federal Glass and L.E. Smith

Imperial Glass did have a Scroll #320 pattern. I think it may have been Measell who added "Atterbury" to the name; when it's actually Challinor Taylor #314 Scroll that was copied here. But Imperial Glass had no canisters/jars in their line that I can find. You'll find some pieces from the Imperial Glass line of Scroll at "R"
Search: imperial glass scroll | Replacements, Ltd.

With these canisters/jars I'd tend to go with the catalog cuts that you offer here. To R's credit here they have the canisters in their unknown listings. Perhaps "R" might be willing to help correct the error by updating their info; you might try contacting them and providing the Federal catalog info:
Unknown Manufacturer, UNK9398 | Replacements, Ltd.

at least one astute seller did list a canister as Federal tho' they joined the term 'Showoff"
FEDERAL GLASS teal blue canister jar BIG SHOWOFF wheat sheaf scroll vintage 70s | #2861960848 (worthpoint.com)

hopefully I haven't added to the confusion... have to admit it is a bit overwhelming to see the number of misattributed listings as Atterbury Scroll...

ok... to add a bit more confusion, I forgot to mention that Pilgrim also had a similar Scroll Fan pattern....

Actually Don. You were of great help. I never doubted the catalog reference. My quandary was why I couldn't find any sold with correct ID. All were L.E. Smith. Thought maybe I was missing something. :bag: I will send Replacements the catalog pics. I did find the one and only on WP via Terapeak. Sold for $29.99
