Featured Moonstone necklace

I beleive these are moonstones. What age do you think this necklace is? How would you describe it, bezel set cabochon moonstone necklace? Thanks.

 

Yes, cabochon moonstones, curb chain. That's an older style spring ring clasp. Someone will come along to date it better. Very pretty.

It's about 16 inches long.

 

According to my files, the spring ring was invented ca 1840. I have certainly seen it on 19th century jewellery.

What am I missing? I don't see how #3 without the loop could be attached to anything. Maybe soldered?

 

Sixteen inches is a good pointer to age.

 

It is a loose ring, which would clasp both ends of a necklace or bracelet. I have a 19th century amber necklace with the same clasp.

 

For my future reference what age would 16" indicate?

 

Sorry! Older. Women were smaller, had smaller necks unless you were Queen Victoria who was seriously fat.

 

My most seriously blingy cameo came with a chain that was described as broken because the clasp was not attached. Not broken at all; you just have to loop it though both ends of the chain.

Good to know. I have in my pile an unattached clasp . I thought it was broken as well. I may have to go dig it out.
