I am a collector of antiques from São Paulo-Brazil and this is my first post on this incredible forum (I hope to be posting this in the right place and in the right way.) What brings me here, is this face-jug that at first reminded me of the Martin brothers from England production, but it has no signature, other than the word "Weiss". I would like to ask your help with any information about the object.
    All the best,

Looks rather like Doulton John Barleycorn but a copy. Not found anything on Weiss but wait for others to have a look.

No,not a Toby jug. It's as Popsycat says,a character jug. A Toby has feet and legs (AND ARMS! Forgot to mention them )

    Hi,
Toby jugs are full figured they have arms and legs. Just the face is a character jug.
At least here in the USA.

I stand corrected. Thank you :)

    Toby Jug - Wikipedia

Jugs depicting just the head and shoulders of a figure are also referred to as Toby jugs, although these should strictly be called "character jugs" or face jugs, the wider historical term. The original Toby Jug, with a brown salt glaze, was developed and popularised by Staffordshire potters in the 1760s.
