I posted this once on the antiques board but came up with nothing. Thought I would try here with some fresh eyes. This is a painting I bought from Copenhagen. Likely dates from the 20s-50s. Very little money invested in it and it was among my first art purchases. It is still among my favorites and it has always bugged me that I can not decipher the signature.

The signature is in two parts (I assume first and surname). The first part photographs reasonably well. The second part is mostly on a darker background so I have provided a pencil sketch of it. The gallery stamp is for a company in Skagen that is still in business. I tried writing them but got no response. Skagen is a town known as an art colony.

The pics may enlarge a bit if you click on them. Any help is appreciated!

I was beginning to think it might be Hebrew. The signature is more stylized on my painting than what I see on most others. It is definitely by Jacobsen. I found a very similar painting by him dated 1925. Mine is undated unless it is under the frame.

Values are relatively low for Jacobsen. There is a painting on ebay now for $99.00 + shipping. there are a couple others on European ebay sites that are a bit higher. I find auction results up to $600.00 and there is one gallery site with a painting for sale for $950.00. I bought this painting about 12 years ago for less than $100.00 including shipping. It is of reasonable size at about 31" x 28" framed.

Danish 20th century art seems not to be valued as highly as works by artists of other nationalities. As such, I think it represents good value. I have bought and sold quite a few Danish works over the years and still have a couple other works tucked away somewhere. I think there are a number of identifiable Danish artists worth buying at reasonable prices.
