    Hi All,
I wasn't sure if I should post this in textiles or here - hopefully this is a good choice.
Inuit wall hanging , about 20" x 20", I believe this is melton wool cloth but could be wrong. Some areas have stains, any suggestions on how to remove them? I worry the red colour will run if they get wet.
    any information appreciated
    thanks for looking

    Hi CX....
The quality just isn't there, to worry about a stain or two...., but yes I'd say melton also.

But if ya have to.....maybe hand wash in woollite..I don't think the red would run....

Maybe @Mark London , would know better...

I would only try to clean the stained bits, although the figure with the drum is stitched onto a red background, so it could still run. Maybe leave it as it is?

I have spot cleaned with OxiClean on a Q Tips with good results, sometimes spots were completely gone, others faded dramatically but were still slightly noticable. Don't rub hard, just dab. Use several Q-tips, you don't want to keep using the same soiled one. I dab the excess fluid from the tip so you don't saturate the material. After cleaning, I let the piece dry in the sun.

Another recipe for spot cleaning that works is equal parts of peroxide and Whisk laundry detergent. It removed tomato sauce from white cushions, however, it required a harsher scrubbing. I'm not sure how the peroxide would react on the red material and wouldn't use it unless I could test it first.

    thanks for your replies folks:)
I probably should leave it alone but the one spot is so noticeable, kind of daring me to try and remove it, lol.

I'll give this a try and see what happens:)

Try plain water first and blot off. If that doesn’t do the trick then go with woolite.

Try some K2r on the spots. Not water based so should not affect colors.

    Thank-you Mark and Brad:)
I decided to try diluted vinegar and water, seems to be working although very slow going.
I've never heard of K2R, will have to see what it is.
