I have an old Shenandoah National Park Skyline Drive I think is an ashtray, match book holder and cigarette holder. Dimensions are about 7 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 1 1/2" at widest measurements. Is this an ashtray, match book and cigarette holder? What decade do you think this is from? Is this made of wood or ceramic? Why does the center of the emblem have so many holes in it? Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Rob

I would agree with you on its purpose. Top may have been used as a coaster (ya, maybe not. Looks like it has a raised area?).

The first section of Skyline Drive opened in 1934. I'd think sometime in the 1930s-1940s would be right.

Agree with molded wood-pulp and the 1930's - 1940's. I think there has been some damage to the emblem. It should show a scene of trees, mountains and a tunnel. I think the holes were originally spaces between the trees. Somehow it's sort of lost definition. Can't tell for sure without a closer examination but the whole piece shows some wear.

You might be able to get a bit closer by identifying date of the cigarette box's plaque... design? logo? but you'd need to post an in focus close-up photograph to get help with that.

Syroco wasn't the only company making wood-pulp composition pieces, Burwood was another, and the majority of ashtrays, cigarette boxes, or other items like this that I've seen were made by Multi Products, circa 1940s-'50s...

I did not think of that you are probably right about that. Thank you. Rob

Beautiful scene with the tunnel and the turning of the leaves in the fall. Thank you
    for identifying the tunnel. Rob
