Hi, this was my late 2nd. DH's Mom's framed needlepoint. It looks antique to me BWDIK? Looks like a basic needlepoint stitch.
    Thanks for any input :)

Well, that wooden backing certainly looks older, but with that stuff behind it I would have expected to see damage to the needlepoint from the acid if it had been there 100 years. BWDIK

Thanks Bakers, its always been in that frame since we met in 1984,it may have lived in it since its inception ;) so I guess its just vintage ;)

    PS
The frame looked antique to me.:p

From the look of the yarn used, the frame is older than the needlepoint.

I am going to hazard a guess and say 1940's on the needlepoint (because of the expression on the lion's face).

However, I'd check to see what's under that back board. That wood could be leaching into the sampler. :(

Squared if the yarn used is anything other than wool. They didn't start using wool blend or acrylic until the late 70s.

I didn't purchase it,it was my late husbands Mom's. Looks like an amature did it if you look close.Maybe his Mom bought it. I have seen his family pics with this on the wall in the 60's before he and I met in 84. I do think the frame is older though.
Someday I will find a nice old painting to put in this frame as I really love the carving. ;)
Thanks for all the replies :)

Maybe she made it and put it in an old frame. Hard to say.

    Hi,
I would take it apart, the wood will discolor the wool and hasten it's break down. I would take a clear coating around the rabit on the frame and at least keep the wood backing from touching the wool. You can put it back together until you find an another use for the frame. I LOVE the frame.

It's already been in that frame for about 50 years.
I think the lamb looks like it is saying "Are you my friend?", and the lion is thinking "They're so cute when they're dumb.".

A lion, a donkey and a raven all got together to go hunting one day. At the end of the day, they had accumulated quite a pile of stuff. The lion asked the donkey to divide it up fairly, so the donkey applied itself to creating three nicely balanced piles. The lion looked them over and with one swipe of its paw, killed the donkey. He tossed the donkey’s carcass onto one of the piles and then told the raven to divide all the stuff again… fairly. A lot of work for a raven, but he managed to get all the stuff into one pile, except for half of a small and rotting fish. The lion looked at the result and nodded approvingly. “How did you manage to be so fair,” he asked.

The raven replied, “I learned from the donkey.”
